In my endeavors to find things that people want and I can make I ventured into the notion of dolls clothes. Of course there's the typical Barbie and the generic baby doll categories, but I love BJDs and I know that they happen to be really big right now. As I was contemplating how to go about getting one of these insanely expensive dolls for modeling (and just so I can finally own one) I remembered a friend of mine using a Blythe doll for her doll clothing model, since they have a very similar body shape. The most prominent memory I have of these dolls is that they are ugly. With giant heads and ill-fitting eyes, they were a short lived doll of the 70's. Why were they short lived? Because even their makers thought they inspired nothing but fear in children.
Regardless, some people actually liked these demented figures, so in the end I figured I could hide it in a closet between modeling shoots and just live with it. After all, they hadn't cost that much when I had been introduced to them through my pal, only about $30-50, depending on the modifications and condition. So imagine my surprise when I found the price range had jumped closer to the range of $300 and Blythe is no longer a thing of the past, but now a trendy Japanese fashion doll!
Too bad I can't make my own dolls (yet). :/
