Toddler pants: a baby step into the world of making clothes

It's getting very cold outside around here and A has outgrown all of his old winter gear, but hasn't quite grown into the things we have for this year (next year, is what it's looking like). One thing that was no where in his stash was warm pajamas. No, more like any pajamas. I hate putting him to bed bare legged in the winter, but jeans are so uncomfortable for sleeping. This was a job for the sewing machine.

I've wanted to make my own clothing for a while, but still being a little hesitant about things like hems and sewing anything other than a straight line (though I'm not so hot at the straight part) I've been dancing around that for the most part. But A needed pajamas, and he needed them now. So, with a lot of nervous triple checking, tears and cursing, I made A some pajamas....well, the bottoms anyway.

The pattern said it was a 2T, but I have no idea what two year old they were measuring, because they were HUGE! And after I had gotten the pants cut out and set aside, I discovered that I hadn't gotten enough fabric for the pajama top. Fortunately shirts are not something A lacks an abundance of, so it's not as big a deal, but I will have to go get some more to finish the set.

All in all, I would say that they're still very rough, lots of ugly seems and off colored thread makes that even more obvious, but it was very satisfying to see A running around in something I made on my own. They look adorable on him, too.
